Return of the Swallows at Mountain Lake Park

May 18 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Event:  Return of the Swallows at Mountain Lake Park (plus many other birds to see)
When:  Saturday May 18th, 9am to 11am
Where:  Mountain Lake Park, 46 Bowen Road, Warwick, NY 10990
Meet:  In the parking area near the entrance to the park.
Leader:  Local Warwick birder Rich VanTieghem

– Bring Binoculars if you have them, and shoes suitable for wet/muddy conditions
– We will walk on paved paths and perhaps some grassy areas near “Seymour’s Pond” at MLP.
Overview:  Mountain Lake Park has long been home to breeding colonies of 3 species of Swallows, with hundreds of Swallows in residence each Spring and Summer.  We expect to see many mud nests that have been built and occupied by Cliff Swallows (the same bird species made famous at San Juan Capistrano in California).  In addition, Tree Swallows and Barn Swallows breed at the park.  These birds (plus potential visits from additional Swallow species) typically put on an aerial show over the pond each morning as they seek flying insects to feed to their young.   Over 75 species of birds have been seen or heard at Mountain Lake Park, so we hope to find many additional birds during this event, such as Eastern Bluebird, Wood Duck, Belted Kingfisher, Great Blue Heron, maybe an American Eagle and more.
